Gryphons win regional championship

Ann Arbor Greenhills beats Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 1-0 in MHSAA boys soccer regional action on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017

 

   Division 4 No. 5-ranked Ann Arbor Greenhills won the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 14 boys soccer championship, beating Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 1-0 on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Madison Heights Bishop Foley.

   It was Greenhills’ second straight regional championship.

   Senior Jerry Tucker scored the game-winner for Greenhills. Junior Leo Fried was stellar in goal, saving numerous shots to earn the shutout.

   Greenhills advances to face two-time defending Division 4 champion Burton Genesee Christian for the second straight year in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Troy Athens. Genesee Christian eliminated Auburn Hills Oakland Christian 2-1 in overtime to advance.

   Genesee Christian eliminated Greenhills 1-0 in last year’s semifinal.
