Novi Detroit Catholic Central rolls past Grand Ledge 62-3 at school assembly wrestling match on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017

   Defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 champion Novi Detroit Catholic Central dominated Grand Ledge 62-3 in its annual school assembly wrestling match to open its season on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Catholic Central.

   Daniel Rehfeldt (103), Benyamin Kamali (119), Camden Trupp (125), Stone Moscovic (130), Rhett Newton (135), Derek Gilcher (140), Kevon Davenport (145), Cameron Amine (160), Aidan Wagh (171), Rory Cox (189), Easton Turner (215), and Steven Kolcheff (285) all earned victories on Wednesday.

   Kamali, Davenport, and Amine will all be going for their third straight individual state championship this season.

   The Shamrocks will compete in the Westland John Glenn Rockets Duals on Dec. 9, Catholic Central will send a split squad to both the Oakland County Tournament and the Mishawaka Penn (Ind.) Duals on Dec. 16.

   Catholic Central will also wrestle Friday, Dec. 22 at home against Brighton and Perrysburg, Ohio, before heading to Ohio for the highly touted Brecksville Invitational on Dec. 29-30.

   In January, the Catholic Central Invitational is set Jan. 6 and is followed by a dual match Jan. 10 at home against Macomb Dakota. Then it's the Catholic Central Super Duals and Alumni Day on Saturday, Jan. 13, at home featuring two national powers from Ohio, St. Paris Graham and Lakewood St. Edward's.

Catholic Central will also face Davison on Senior Night Friday, Jan. 19, at home in a rematch of last year's team finals.

  Once the MHSAA tournament commences on Feb. 7, the Shamrocks will be gunning for their 13th state title in school history and sixth under Hancock.
